Pizhichil is a traditional warm-oil therapy performed in a slow, continuous rhythm — warm oil is gently poured over the body while a therapist simultaneously massages it in, in a technique unique to this therapy. It is one of the more indulgent Ayurvedic rituals, often reserved for longer programmes.
The combination of sustained warmth and rhythmic touch is traditionally associated with deep relaxation and support for joint and muscular comfort.

A generous quantity of herbal oil is warmed to a precise, comfortable temperature.
Warm oil is poured over the body in a steady stream while simultaneously massaged in.
The combination of heat and rhythm is sustained throughout, unlike shorter massage techniques.
An extended rest period allows the oil to fully absorb before you shower.

A signature therapy within our longer Ayurvedic programmes.
The most indulgent hour of my entire stay, and I tried almost everything.EKAM Guest, Panchakarma
Pizhichil appears, in some form, across most EKAM programmes.
Oil selection and duration are shaped around you, following a consultation with your Ayurveda physician.
Reserve your stay and our team will build Pizhichil into your personalised programme.
Pizhichil involves warm oil poured continuously over the body while therapists massage in gentle, synchronised strokes — a more saturating, longer-duration therapy than the drier-touch strokes of Abhyanga.
Sessions typically run 60–90 minutes, given the continuous oil-pouring technique involved.
It's traditionally associated with deep relaxation and joint support, and is often included in programmes focused on recovery and rejuvenation. Always discuss specific joint concerns with your physician.
A rest period is recommended to let the oil absorb, followed by a shower whenever you're ready — there's no strict rush.
It's generally considered a deeper, more saturating experience given the volume of oil and duration, though pressure remains gentle throughout.
Guests seeking deep relaxation, joint support or a more immersive Ayurvedic experience, often as part of longer, multi-day programmes.
Given its duration and the rest period recommended afterward, Pizhichil is best suited to guests with a full day or multi-day stay rather than a brief visit.
Pizhichil commonly features in Panchakarma, Himalayan Recovery and Ayurvedic Rejuvenation programmes.

Come away lighter. Return feeling more like yourself.
